My at-home yoga practice started during the winter of 2005. It was during a period in my life where I felt lost, overwhelmed, confused, hopeless, lonely and filled with anxiety. I was desperate for anything that would help me cope with all the broken disconnected pieces in my life. It was obvious I needed yoga. I retreated to my parent’s house, located in a small developing suburban town where no yoga studios nearby existed. I didn’t own any yoga books or videos, and I wasn’t aware of such things as ‘online yoga’ or reliable resources for developing a home yoga practice. So I sprawled 2 bath towels (I didn’t own a yoga mat) out on the patio of my parent’s backyard and tried to sequence myself a yoga practice based on a couple of classes I can recall along with some experimental flow I drew from my dance background from grade school. It was ridiculously horrible, but at least I was moving. Moving away from disconnection towards wholeness.
Seven years later and my yoga practice has transformed and grown in ways I could never have imagined. It’s gotten more frequent, more potent, more dynamic, and even more playful. Although I still value studio classes, I believe yoga really starts to produce amazing results when it gets out of the studio, away from classes and into personal private sessions at home. The videos I present here to you reflect my home practice. Each one captures a special time in my life when I felt most at peace, empowered and complete. I share them with you in hopes of offering you a path towards your own sense of wholeness.
